A dental exam is a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums. It is recommended that children and adults have a dental exam every six months to maintain good dental health, treat cavities and prevent future problems.
Teeth Cleaning
Before a dentist can thoroughly examine your teeth and gums, a dental hygienist will review them, remove any plaque, and clean them. They will also look at your teeth and gums for sores and swelling.
Examine Your Mouth & Gums
Following your teeth cleaning, the inside of your mouth is then thoroughly examined by your dentist. It’s not just about looking for problems; it’s also about preventing them, which is why we look for even the most minor indicators of potential gum disease, tooth and gum loss, and any other concerns that may affect your health.
Dental X-Rays
If any issues are discovered, our team will do a dental x-ray. These will assist us in gaining a better understanding of some of the underlying elements of your oral health, such as the bone, jaw, or other abnormalities, and how to treat them effectively. Dental X-rays are crucial if you are prone to teeth grinding, oral cancer, or other dental concerns, and they become even more critical as we age.
Check for Cancer
Individuals may not recognize the early stages of oral cancer, so your dentist will be on the lookout for indicators of mouth or throat cancer. The warning signs are lesions, sores, ulcers, unexplained bleeding, and blocked salivary glands.
Schedule a Dental Exam
At the end of your dental exam, we will offer you unique recommendations and guidance based on our informed findings. A routine dental checkup with our Tamarac, Plantation or Davie dentists is the first step to achieving a brighter smile and healthy gums.
