What is Considered a Dental Emergency?
Dental emergencies often result from accidents. They are also caused by oral infections that worsen when they go without detection or treatment. It is a good idea to have a plan in place in case you or your child faces an emergency dental problem. If the injury is severe enough, you need to schedule an appointment with an emergency dentist right away. Examples of common dental emergencies include:Â
- Tooth breakage.
- Tooth loss.
- Abscessed teeth.
- Filling or crown loss.

How to Handle a Dental Emergency
Contact our Plantation dentist or Plantation pediatric dentist right away. If immediate appointments are not available, we can get something scheduled for as soon as possible. If the emergency occurs at night when our office is closed, call our after-hours emergency phone number. If you or your child is having severe bleeding or pain during the night, head to the ER. The doctors will be able to stabilize the situation and stop the bleeding until you can make it to a dentist.
In the Event of Tooth Loss
Tooth loss has two main causes. Either the tooth is unhealthy and falls out on its own, or the tooth dislodges because of an impact. If an impact knocks out a tooth, place it in a jar of milk. The calcium, protein, and sugars in the milk will preserve the tooth. Pack the empty socket with gauze to prevent bleeding and infection. You can use over-the-counter painkillers to treat the discomfort. If you are facing a dental emergency, our Tamarac dentist and Tamarac pediatric dentist offices are here to help. Please call us immediately and we will do whatever is necessary to provide treatment.
